This book grew from a little seed planted several years ago.
After years in corporate marketing with “unsmall” businesses such as General Electric and DuPont, I decided in 2004 to take a deep breath, close my eyes and jump into the pool of entrepreneurship. The water was refreshing, invigorating but also a cold, shocking wake up call! No longer could I rest on co-workers, company resources and a bright, shiny business plan. Every sale and every customer depended on me.
After a few years I had a growing client list, but felt increasingly out of control. I was running faster and faster, yet my bank account did not seem to be reflecting all this added activity and stress. So I sought out the wisdom of fellow entrepreneurs, expert bloggers and book writers. Little by little I start to take back my business and focus on the better few — rather than the lousy many. I kept track of my learnings through my weekly blog.
This book, “The Secret of Getting Better Customers”, is an abbreviated, synthesized roadmap of that journey. Through stories, worksheets and templates, my hope is that you will receive the inspiration and the tools to getting the best customers for your business.

About the most important concept, although widely discussed in many publications, is that not every client is worth having or keeping.
I really like the appendixes, especially the Customer TouchPoints Map. I started to make sure that I increase the times I contact my most important customers to let them know I am thinking of them as well as thank them.
